I’d like to thank Blake Linklater for coming on the podcast this week. Blake is a registered retirement consultant and a financial planner. A licensed insurance broker, he has many designations and assists individuals from all walks of life. He is a Canadian and the person to go to for financial advice. He will keep you organized, and focused on what matters so that you can focus on your business. He will make your financial pain go away through viable financial advice.
I think you will enjoy this lively and resource-packed discussion. We start the conversation off by Blake telling us about financial planning, wills & estate, insurance, taxation, pensions, health plan, corporate structure, succession planning and life. The younger you start, the better off you are.
You’ll Learn:
• [01:43] – Blake starts our conversation by telling us about himself, the Linklater Group, what they do, their clientele base and his support team at the Group.
• [02:50] – He specializes in small business owners whether full proprietors or corporates around Ontario and Canada. He also defines for us what that entails. He has been doing this work for over five years and has been an entrepreneur for over 40 years. He takes us through his journey.
• [34:40] – He informs us that the biggest mistake that people are making when it comes to finances is not saving any money. People are not saving enough and they need to start saving. Also the biggest mistake entrepreneurs make is not having a plan.
• [48:10] – Blake talks to us about wills for individuals and corporate businesses. He also educates us about taxation and how to go about it.
• [49:10] – He says that although it is very difficult to talk about death, it is vital that we talk about it. Most people are not prepared when a death occurs. We must take the issue of wills seriously. The first thing an individual needs is to make a will and those with wills must ensure that they keep updating their wills.
• [50:30] – He summarizes our discussion by emphasizing about wills and insurance saying, “Get your will done… and get the life insurance to take care of some of the stuff. Put your life insurance under your beneficiaries and not your estate. Any will is better than nothing! ”
