An animated conversation with a rideshare driver led Michael and Greg to this interview with Tommy Gunzzz at the Dana Hotel in Chicago. Tommy is a singer-songwriter from Chicago’s South side, which he claims is worse than Spike Lee made it seem in his film Chi-Raq. He begins with the story of how he was shot six times; surviving a point-blank head shot by sheer luck. He and the hosts then talk about the role of family and music in his life, how he’s used both to try to move beyond his circumstances. Greg and Michael also ask Tommy about his personal experience and black man and how he views the current social and political situation in America.
This episode contains more explicit language and content than is typical for the series, with frank discussions of violence.
